SurPriSe SuRpRiSE!

A belated birthday dinner celebration...

Met up with the my sec school besties - HT, SY, Wee and San to celebrate HT and Sy's belated bdae celebration at Crystal Jade at Bishan J8 after work.

That was one of the most filling meals I ever had at Crystal Jade. Ate till I cannot stomach anymore lah. The birthday girls were also treated to a yummy creamy sweet secrets tiramisu cake too. Nice!

It was fun meeting with them and San announced a shocking news that took us by storm. The latest GYSS coupling of the year! Goodness, never underestimate the power of Friendster! Hahaha...

Thinking back, many of my ex-sec sch mates have gotten attached /engaged or married to each other since we left our school like years ago...

Incredible lah...

I still can't get over the surprising shock unveiled ydae :p

HT: Have you gone to see the pics?????

The office is moving...

Damn, I will miss alighting at Dhoby Ghaut, the trips to Plaza Singapura's Daiso, walking to city hall and bugis MRT station, a huge array of lunch makan choices and other conveniences.

Moving to JTC area sited in Tiong Bahru TODAY, I am bidding a sweet goodbye to leaving home at 830am and still being able to reach on time for work at 9am. Boo hoo.... earlier waking and leaving home hours :(

The office is now in a pretty messy state as though a whirlwind juz swept through it :p

My stuff almost done packing as I basically do not have much to lug over to the new space. Most of my garbage is tons of papers strewn over my desk. Reminiscent of time at my ex-co with press release piled up on my desk threatening to spill over any moment :p

Anyway, I have grown to love the dhoby Ghaut area and it sure is hard not miss the place...

And I haven figured out to go to the new place except taking a train a to tiong bahru and walk or take a bus to the new space...

I hope I wun be late next mon :p

UrGH uLcErS

Ouch!

I got 2 freaky pain-in-the-mouth ulcers!

The one on my right cheek surfaced to torment me after I accidentally bit my right cheek 2 days ago.

The other is a smaller version taking root in my lower lip. Dropped a few salt crystals on it last nite and watch as the salt eats into that uber irritating ulcer.

Shiok.

Although it stings/pain for a the initial couple of seconds, it was not as as bad later on. Salt is really much more useful than sugar or watermelon frost to kill those ulcers.

Damn uncomfy with the right cheek one.

Spent the weekend cooped in the library as the BF was hard at work working on his projects. Settled ourselves down at the 8th level of the National Libray in Bugis on Sat. This particular reference section prohibits outside books so I could not bring in any of my fave novels and had to be contented with photography books for the couple of hours I was there.

Thankfully, mp3 players are allowed *grinned*

Listened to the likes of Nickleback, SHE, JJ Lin, Marron 5, Trapt, Evanescence, Jay Chou, Linkin Park, LifeHouse and others. What will the world be without music?????

We then trooped off to Bugis for dinner and to celebrate our third year pak tor anniversary at a Jap restaurant and a movie - Brothers at Suntect's Eng Wah.

Guess what the BF bought for me:

Versace Bright Crystal Fragrance
Plus other exquisite miniatures!
Loves!
Recently, I have been collecting a lotta fragrances and miniatures online and offline. Hence, the BF picked this up to add to my collections.
I have to confess I DO NOT use any of the fragrances that I bought but kept them in their original state for display purpose :p
Anyway the scent for Versace Bright Crystal leans on the lighter whiffs of fruity refreshing scents. My fave! I love summerish scents like CK summer. Light light light! Does not give me giddy spells when I spritz it on.
Okay, back to work le... :)

DinnER at RiTz

Went for a company dinner with bosses, their wives and fellow colleagues at the Ritz Carlton's GreenHouse...

Am still feeling the after effects of the buffet... I am so darn full

Gorged on steaks, sashimi (maguro, salomon and mackeral), chwanmushi, butter chicken (make mi giggle coz of the hilarious M1 ad), scallops, scallop omelette, a lil bit of chilli crab, ginseng chicken soup and

TONS OF SINFUL DESSERTS!

Let's see... i had:

raspberry cheesecake (the raspberry damn sour, made the hairs on my arm stand!)
dark choc cake
2 choc pralines
small glass of what seems to be cream and raspberry (again!)
small glass of semi-frozen choc ice-creamish stuff with orange slices and choc balls (look like swollen poh chai pills) on top
tiramisu (too mushy)
creme brulee (not warm enough)

End off with a nice cuppa coffee (after 9pm wor!)

So think it's pretty obvious why I walked out of Ritz Carlton with a bulging tummy and still feeling damn full almost 12 hours later. -_-III

The place was pretty cosy with a live band playing some simple soothing music. The service staff was friendly and polite too.

Made me feel like the weekend arrived early :p

Gosh, I might just skip lunch man... FULL

Market on fire...

If you had been reading the news, you would have known that a market in amk ave 4 caught fire on Tues.

It wasn't till later did I realise this was the same market that I frequent when I was younger and went for a dinner feast with HT and her bf.

I loved that place, mum used to bring mi and bro there for brekky over the weekend. There were a sliced fish soup and duck noodles stalls that was especially lipsmacking good. Too bad, the hawkers moved on to elsewhere/retired.

Mum was just casually mentioning on Mon that she was intending to go there to buy chicken (as the amk central wet market is STILL undergoing renovations). While there goes her chicken marketing list in smoke.

The fire was terrible. The roof actually melted~! I smelt the faint smell of smoke on tues nite after I got home from work. Mum heard the shrill screams of the fire engine but never did we suspected it was that market on fire.

Pity the stall owners who lost both $ and goods in this fire. Wonder if it's a delibrate work of arson by others or a pure accidental case.

A couple of years ago, another market in AMK Ave 1 was also ablazed. Goodness, why are markets catching fire?

Too many hazardous items? Or pure prankster jealousy or boredom?????????

RaNdOM mOnDaY

Someone was sick on the train ydae...

In the same cabin as yours truly was. The female student was probably feeling unwell and she puked mid-way while the train was going towards Orchard Station. Standing not too far away, her puke sounds woke mi up from my drowsy daze.

Feet shuffled.

Heads turned.

People backing away and siam-ing.

Then, she puked another 2 more rounds.

More shuffling of feet.

The poor student was not quick enough to whip out a plastic bag but thankfully, her friend seated beside her managed to get one out coz she puked a little more.

The stench of course was nose pinching. I tried to hold in my breath for as long as I could since i still need to tahan another 2 more stops before I could alight.

The worst was when the aircon in the cabin blew towards us and carried the pukey stench with it. Goodness, I thought I would have purged too.

That officially sealed off my brekky appetite for ydae morning...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a funnier note, my very chatty tuition kiddo got luffing non-stop when she made this comment/quote while I was going thru a vocab cloze passage with her ydae evening.

We were reading this story about a taxi driver named "Ah Seng". I started off saying:

"Ah Seng was a taxi driver..."

She cut in : "Oh! Ah Hock must be his brother!".

I was like so taken aback before a wave of non-stop hysterics overtook me.

It was so funni (or maybe, its me lah. I found it comical)!

She is sooooooooo cute lah :)

InTo The ArmS oF HIM

My saturday was a sombre event.

Attend my 2nd uncle's (mum's elder bro) funeral over at punggol. Although I wasn't exactly close to this late-uncle of mine, I could not help feel sad and tear as it brought back memories of my late-dad.

*sigh*

Treasure your loved ones when they are still alive. Coz when they are dead and gone, no matter how many buckets of tears u shed it's totally useless. It will be too late then to whisper how much u really really love them.

HoLD ThE cOLa

Never underestimate the insane power of a can of cola...

Goodness, the coffee immune me got arrogant on tuesday night and downed a can of lime cola approx an hr before bedtime. The result: I had trouble falling asleep and woke up grouchy and lethargic.

The exact same thing happened a couple of wks ago when I also downed cola and had trouble turning in. In fact, downing cola has this tremendous hindering effect on my sleeping habits compared to downing coffee or red bull (the silver and blue can please) which is hopeless in aiding my burning-midnite-oil but very effective in allowing me to drift off to dreamland at the drop of a pin.

And so this concludes my very sleepy day yesterday in the office. I was battling the zee monsters every drowsy second and looking forward to going home and zoning out on my comforting bed. I could have kissed my sheets.

The minute I stepped home, kicked off my slippers, dropped off my bag on my desk, informed my mum to wake mi up hours later, skipped dinner (till I woke up from my slumber) and plonked into bed.

Gosh, that moment was FANTASTIC. There was no where else I rather be than to be tucked up and snoozing in my very messy bed. *grin*

After which, I woke up recharged and told myself NO MORE COLA BEFORE BEDTIME unless I am staying to rush any unfinished work or catching some late nite show on the tube.

aLL aBout MakAn and 2 fOod CrAzy LAdiEs

Met up with Christel for dinner ydae after work...

Starving we made our way for asam curry fish head at Chili Padi cafe but sadly the outlet at Bugis did not carry the fish head dish (head on down to the Joo Chiat outlet if you want to dig into it). So we consoled ourselves by tucking into the nonya spread buffet that cost $10.80+ per pax.

Usually penang laksa (my fave! beats the spore laksa anything in my opinion) is served but it was deeply missed ydae. Instead we found mee siam, longtong, gado gado, grilled fish etc etc in the buffet variety of food items.

I had a bowl each of mee siam, longtong and gado gado plus 3 (or is it 4?) grilled sambal fish, some vegs, and a piece of curry chicken. Christel had a bowl of mee siam, a plate of steamed white rice, fatty meat (cringe),veg, 2 grilled sambal fish and cut fruits.

Honestly, we would probably have ate more if not for the sudden attack of bak ku teh cravings.

In a bid to combat the insane wave of cravings, we sought the company of peppery hot bak ku teh at along Rochor. I had this famous Singaporean dish once with my colleagues and I must it's good. We ordered the bak ku teh (the uncle even topped up our soup without us asking!), kidney (taste just like liver but less crumbly) and braised small intestines. Shiorrrrrrrk!

Having filled our tummies to the brim, we took off on foot to Suntec City for....

YAMI Yogurt!

Okie, this is the FIRST time i ever tasted yami yogurt and it was....

delicious!

Had the peach flavour as recommended by christel and it's really damn good!

Would definitely have it soon again...

We then walked around a lil to spy for a suitable dress for christel's upcoming award dinner and gossiped, laughed and basically talked our mouths off till we parted at city hall station.

Had an enjoyable time ydae! Looking forward to another meet-up to indulge in curry fish head soon :)

RiCh dUMbAsS

I hate those flashy loud-ass lambos/porsche etc cars on the road...

So what if your engine roars as loud as a jet plane?

Who cares if your car speeds past infinite times faster than the Honda/Nissan/Mazda/ Toyota on the roads?

Who gives a damn if your cars cost half a million bucks or more?

Who gives a shit if you are rich?

You still LL get stuck when the traffic light turns red.

Beat that.

WhErE i waNnA bE

Holidays...Vacations... Trips...Sightseeing...

Boy, there are so many countries on the globe and sometimes I feel like packing my bag, hop on a plane to a designated country and be away for awhile. Sadly there are some 'obstacles' to leaving away (temp) on a jetplane:

1) lack of vitamin M

2) time

3) work

But to indulge in a lil dreamland escapade on a fri work week, here's my list of countries I would like to visit in the (if I could) near future.

1) Switzerland

Imagine snowy white mountains, cool chilly fresh fresh air and of course the Swiss are known for the smooth chocs! Unfortunately, a trip to Switzerland is also very expensive.... -_-III

2) Egypt

One of the 7 (or is it 8?) wonders of the world. It amazes me how the ancient egyptians build those structures long long ago. The legend of the pharohs also intrigues me much. Would love to touch the golden pyraminds and venture inside the mysterious tunnels.

Lastly, my fave location of the 3:

Mauritius!

"You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first, and then heaven;and that heaven was copied after Mauritius."-Mark Twain
A beautiful island paradise where the ocean is as blue as anything, the ocean breeze and the warm sunshine! Aaaaaaaaaaa...I so wanna be there now!

I am getting very reliant on the computer...

The word document has become a very good friend of mine and the paper a distant accquaintance.

Can't seem to generate a flow of copy on paper compared to when I am facing a black word document.

Shit.

MisCOmMUNiCaTIoN cHiP

My mum related this funny piece of 'miscommunication' that got me in peals of laughter.

My aunt was intending to send her Shih Tzu for microchipping and was concerned with what will become of the chip after the dog dies. So she makes a phonecall to the animal clinic:

Aunt: Hello! blah blah blah... May I ask if my dog dies, how will the microchip be handled?
Animal clinc assistant: Hi Madam, I'm sorry but I have never come across a case whereby a dead dog gets microchipped
Aunt: laughing heartily. No, I'm asking when my dog dies, will the microchipped be taken out or otherwise disposed?
Animal clinic assistant: oh!

OMG! It's like so duh lor... Who in the world wants to microchip a dead dog? Hello? People wanting to steal dog's corpse??????????

UnWaNtEd

Due to the new ruling introduced by the AVA with regards to pet licensing, steralisation and microchipping, many irresponsible pet owners with hearts of cold steel and hard stone have abandoned their pets islandwide.

The last report I read had a dog tied to the bus stop pole and another tied to the divider along an expressway! This is so atrocious!

Image your family tying you to a lampost pole in the middle of a busy honking expressway filled with cars, lorries and other assorted huge ass vehicles making tons of nosiy sounds. Wouldn't you freak out? And the best thing is you can't run/hide or escape from the nightmare.

How would the poor lil dog feel? It would be probably thinking what it did to deserve such treatment.

Damn.

If one can't afford to maintain a dog and give it a good home, then please do not buy, pick up or adopt a pet. What's so noble of getting one if you are just going to abandon it the next moment or when a new rule sets in?

Anyway, getting a license for your pet and avoid getting slapped with a $5000 fine will set your heart at ease. Anyway it's only $14 for a steralised male or female dog.

All these should have been considered and factored into your decision when getting a pet. Who says its cheap to own a pet in Singapore by the way? It's all part and parcel of the modern life.

It was predicted that there will be a surge in abandoned pets when the new rules set in by the AVA, and this proved true. Just hope that although we can't change the rule, pet owners or would-be-pet-owners think throughly before making a hasty decision that will affect the innocent fur babies.

----------------------------------------------------------

I just need to declare this!

Craving of the moment: spicy sour asam fish head curry!

Any willing makan kakis?
