HK 2010 - 2nd Day: Dong Chung

After the enjoyable but freezing cable car ride, we descended half frozen and walked into dong chung mall for a spot of factory outlet shopping,

Last year, I had also made a visit to the small mall namely at the adidas and esprit outlet and bought a couple of tees for the bf and my bro.

This time round, I bought just a tee at esprit for my bro as I guess I was feeling quite shagged from the big buddha and huang da xian for the first part of the day.

Was at Guess and tried on a pair of shades and got my companion to shot a pic. A staff politely told us no photo taking is allowed in the store but the pic was already snapped :p

We also went off to The Peak for the tram ride and the beautiful skyline of HK at night from high above. Sadly, due to the heavy fog, nothing can be seen. Total disappointment for us. Did not managed to snap any pics due to 2 reasons:

1) Too much fog with no views to snap
2) Freaking cold with bone chilling wind
3) Camera batt died (so did the other companion's camera batt)

What we ate in the morning before we took off to huang da xian (realised should have placed this at the begining of the earlier entry). Had a set lunch of luncheon + egg and noodles soaked in light broth with generous sprinklings of veg.

The others in group tried the prawn dumpling soup. One thing's for sure, every cup of coffee I tried in HK tasty darn milky.

And this concludes the 2nd day at HK.

HK 2010 - 2nd Day: Huang Da Xian + Big Buddha

Have heard of the majestic-ness of the Big Buddha in HK and the popular Huang Da Xian, and my group rose early to prepare ourselves for the trip.

The second day at HK was still foggy though thankfully no rain was in sight.

Our first stop: huang da xian temple

A well known temple where tourists and locals along pronged to offer prayers and seek divinations from. There is something like back alley beside the temple where you seek a divine lot interpretor to interpret the lot you received.

2nd stop: Big Buddha

We had initially wanted to take a cable car up but due to the looooong queues, we opted to take a bus up and cable down option instead. Disliked the bus ride up which was a tad stuffy and spiralling our way up only made me want to puke.

When we alighted, we were rewarded with the beautiful frothy sight of creamy dense fog descending from the mountains. It felt like I stepped into some chinese martial art drama! Couldn't take my eyes of the sight.

Then begin our climb up the stairs to see the magnificant big buddha. The deity was sooooooooooo huge! Although there were many people at the site, I felt strangely calm and at peace. Such is the power of this beautiful place. Would love to go there again.

On our way down, we took a breather and had a small bowl of sweet beancurd. The beancurd was very silky smooth but the syrup a tad too sweet for me.

A very commericalised village just steps away from the big buddha. We had read online that we can see cows (din see any real life ones leh) and the whole place sounded very nice and cultural. But in the end it was just a pure touristy place where you can buy touristy souvenirs and take snap shots with cut-out boards. -_-III

The cable car ride down is another high point of the trip. Darn freaking high~ and darn freaking cold. coz the vents allowed the gushing ice cold fog and wind to seep in! My colleague got so cold she had to stand up coz the wind was blowing her back and making it ache.

The views below were of lush mountains, hills, sea and forests. A track was cut across the WHOLE stretch back to the cable car touch down area which is damn far. I think 24 hours isnt enough for me to trek through. Am impressed with the determine of the trekking folks!

HK 2010 - AVeNUe Of StArS (1st dAY)

Where the stars left a trail of sparkling stardust.

The last stop of our sight-seeing trip - Avenue of Stars - is famous for the beautiful laser light showcase ( approx 15 - 20mins long),

My group and I managed to arrive just on time to catch the display and there was a huge crowd of spectators gathered to feast their eyes.

Colourful beams flashed across the sky and the buildings were prettily lit, accompanied by lively music and solo helicopter flying in the sky.

The harbour views was magnificant such that you can only take in its beauty part by part due to the vastness of it.

Along the long stretch, we also saw sculptures of famous celebs such as Lee Xiao Long and the golden stars (imprinted on the ground) bearing veteran celebs of the media industry.

Enjoy the pics below (includes a cute brolly dispensing machine sited at the MTR station).

HK 2010 - FiRsT dAY MAkAn

What went into my tummy on the first day of HK!

Started off with some snacks at the Flower Mkt (similar to bugis village kinda place)

From L to R (top row):
A signature wafflish ball snack, smelly toufu and the signage of the toufu shop. Surprisingly the smelly toufu wasn't as bad as I had imagined. It was both hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Taste wise was a tad salty and was deliciously paired with the chilli sauce given. Overall a pretty good experience except I had to pop breath mints in fear of the after effects on my breath.

From L to R (bottom row):
Smooth guilin gao and tender-with-the-right-amount-of-fat-under-the-crispy-skin roast goose!

*****************************************************

In the evening, it was ding dong time for desserts! Previous trip, I had tried the yang zhi gan lu (mango + pomelo ice dessert) at Xue Liu Shan - a famous dessert eatery. This time round, I trooped off to Tang Cheng to try their version of the same offering.

From L to R (top row):
Tang Cheng's signage, paper napkin, yummi carrot cake

From L to R (bottom row):
Siken beancurd drizzled with sesame paste, yan zhi gan lu (not as nice as xue liu shan's and the mango bites!) and char siew buns (nice fluffy buns but the fillings were measly)

HK 2010: First Day Outing Part 1

Having settled the check-in stuff at the hotel, the time check was 4plus in the late afternoon. The initial plan was to trooped off to Huang Da Xian Temple but upon checking with the hotel staff, we realised the temple closes at 5pm hence called for a change in plans.

It was then decided we should troop off to somewhere nearby to make use of the time and shun bian get some makan (dinner time fast approaching).

We headed off the Flower Market at Prince Edward Station which was also famous for its 2 lanes of shops selling pets and goldfishes. The close up pic of the white pup (see below) peeking from the steel cage cost like SGD3k plus!

The HoTeL

Flew off to HK for a company trip over the Good Friday weekend and we were put up at the Langham Place at mongkok for 3D2N. A lovely hotel though there were slight hiccups during the check-in.

Did a montage for the hotel pics coz I was lazy to upload each pic onto the blog :p

Top row from Left to Right: The bedroom lit by cosy orange lamps, the glass panelled loo, the 2 iconic scultpures at the ground floor where I can't resist imitating their pose.

Bottom row from Left to Right: The hotel room's window drapped by white floaty curtains (for those who wanna buy 4D, the hotel room number was 3119), the couple statue locked in an embrace at the lift lobby, the outside view and the hotel building view.

BaCk

Back from the land of egg tarts and lo po bing.

Lugged these items and assorted cookies home too. Compared to the first trip last year, this year's more focused on sightseeing than shopping. Good decision I say.

More details in the next entry. Now too brain dead. Touched down at 1140pm and got to zzz at 2plus am.

I need to zzzzzzz~
