How was your mid-autumn celebration?

Got a box of mooncakes courtesy of one of my ex-students' parent. Was pleasantly surpised as I totally did not expect it. Thanks!

The box of traditonal mooncakes.

Close up shot of the 'moon'

Whisky waiting patiently for his share~

Heard a lots kids downstairs of moi block playing with wheezing sparklers and carry lanterns of all shapes and sizes.

Made me think of the time when I was in pri school tottering with my mum and younger bro at AMK Park or around my neighbourhood with my assortment of lanterns.

It was always such a joy to shop for lanterns. So many to choose from!

From the traditional paper ones to the battery operated lanterns in the shapes of well-loved cartoon characters, cute animals, vehicles and more!

I will always remember my fave lantern carried when I was in p3 or 4. It was a battery operated one in the shape of a peacock. Lovely big lantern!

My bro favoured those in the shape of buses, aeroplanes and the like.

Now at the grand old age of 24, lantern carrying is a thing of the past le. Probably not too bad if it was those paper one but carrying a battery operated one in the shape of a disney princess looks a tad hilarious.

Anyway, I for the first time in my 24 years, played with a sparkler last wk. Yah, I know what the hell was happening to my childhood :p

It was pretty fun and I was a lil afraid those sparks might burn me but of course it did not. Nice but I would give those wheezing ones a miss though, the sound freaks mi out. Reminds me of a whistling kettle on the verge of boiling pt.

*shudder*

Hope you guys had great fun last nite! :)

InK

Body Art

The topic that was discussed on the half hour Tab Tv2 on channel 5 last night. Considering the fact that i have quite a tolerable pain threshold, I once toyed with idea of getting a tattoo but stopped short of getting it done as I was afraid the permanent design that was going to be inked into my skin will be tiresome after a couple of years or months...

Tab TV explored the addiction or obsession some people have with inking themselves. In fact some did not stop till every inch of their skin was covered. Pretty extreme.

Some took the art of piercing to a whole new level by slicing their tongue to resemble that of a snake - forked tongue. The story highlighted by the show ydae re-enacted how a girl who loves tattooing herself and getting piercings was tempted by a friend who got a forked tongue to do the same to her own tongue.

She almost DIY by getting a razor blade to slice it but was stopped by her mum. Determined, she seek a tattoo artiste and had her tongue sliced. Alas, infection set in and her tongue got swollen, hampering her speech.

Scary~

Even having the pros do the job is no guarantee that its safe.

The only extra piercing I have is an additional one on my ear. And that's it. No inking for me.

Do you have a tattoo?

BaTs

I dreamt of bats the other night.

Yucky, warm, wriggling, flappy bats.

Urgh.

There were a whole pack of em flying rats in my room.

But that wasn't the worst part of the horrifying dream.

3 or four of em got tangled up in my crowing glory. *scream*

That's the worst.

I was so disgusted and was frantically forcing myself to untangle them from my hair. Touching the furry warm bodies of these flying creatures was downright spine-tingling.

The dream ended with the bats still stuck in my hair.

MaKan TiMe!

New York New York...

Met up with chums for dinner at NYNY at AMK hub last evening after flying off from work. It was my second time dinning there and experience plus food was definitely much better the last time round.

Feeling ravenous, chums and I ordered the following:

Appetitzers
- Smokey cheese balls
- Fiery buffalo wings
- Cheese garlic bread

The Fiery buffalo wings were not exactly fiery but more sourish due to some sour cream added into the batter I suppose. My fave was the piping hot smoky cheese balls. Those were really great! Crispy longish shape potato wedges (sorry those were so un-ball-like) deep fried to golden brown colour with oozing cheese inside when u bite in. Aaaaaagh! Orgasmic I tell u~

For mains we had:

- Ribeye steak in mushroom sauce
-Ribeye steak in black pepper sauce
-Fried fish pasta

For the steaks, medium rare please. Prefer the black pepper one, taste much better.

Drink:

Big mugs of fizzy rootbeer float (sidetrack: I miss A&Ws!)

After such a pig out, we were full to the brim... Satisfied and lug our piggish bods back home.

*pat tummy happily*

ToUGh In EvEry sEnSe Of ThE wORd

Tough phone to crack...

My new phone is very stubborn. After I showered it with an avalanche of praises on how swell it looks, it has become arrogant in its little complicated hi-tech mind.

Firstly, it refused to allow its back to be slide off easily. Making me spend hours like an idiot using all my might to get it off. Even harnassed the mighty powers of my mum and bro but it refuses to give in.

Thankfully, I discovered its weakenss and now the back cover slides off easily as reciting my ABCs.

Then, I tried to insert my SIM card and the MicroSD card into the respective slots at the side of the phone. Instead of fitting in nicely so that I can close the steel cover, BOTH cards pop out like an eyesore. -_-III

Rendering me spending another couple of hours pushing, poking and forcing the cards in. Thanks to the nifty toothpick (what ya know!) both cards were pricked to stay into place and the steel cover shut down properly.

And then, I tried to install the software on my office comp so I can synch my comp with my phone and shift songs, pics and videos on my comp to my phone. This time, the tooopid software refuse to be installed. Citing that I lack the latest flash player software. So I went to download the software and yet that irritating prompt still pop up!

Frazzled nerves alert! I went home to my more tech-savvy bro and got him to install the CD. Thinking things will work out fine, I went to fiddle with my stuff in my room only to hear my bro screaming for me minutes later.

Turns out, the CD can be installed but only at 96% and not 100% yet the the message appears as 'Installation Complete'. WTH?!

So now, I have got no pics, no videos and only 1 pathetic song on my mobile.

Aaaaargh!

Mooncake galore...

Every cakery I walked pass, every hotel I walk past... mooncakes everywhere.

The little round cakes filled with sweet lotus paste and comes in a HUGE variety of flavours from single, double to quadruple salty yokes, yam paste, ice cream, lucious durian, truffle, brandy, green tea and lotsa lotsa more more more!

I am not exactly an ardent fan of mooncakes. Preferring to nibble on the tiny ones as I get nauseated easily by the cloying sweet taste. I love the ones with yolk as the saltiness balances the sweetness and of course the ice cream and durian ones!

Christel raved to me about Marriott Hotel's durian mooncakes that are filled with goodness durian flesh! THIS is one mooncake I would love to sink my teeth into. *drool*

Lanterns of all shapes and sizes are also out, attracting children and even adults to buy. From cute cartoon characters to the traditional paper and candle ones, one is certainly spoilt for choice.

Bought a forever friends lantern and am extremely leeming to buy a cherry blossom and zen like bamboo ones to decorate yours truly home with...

Maybe I would succumb to the lantern fever in the next 24 hours~

ToUCh Me

My new phone~

Presenting the *drum roll*

HTC Touch Phone!!!!!!!!!! *swoon*

Damn chio right?

Was fiddling with this chic sleek baby the whole evening after I got my hands on it and boy am I loving every moment of exploring it's curves and functions.

So damn beautiful lah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It comes in black and wasabi green but thankfully I got the black one. It looks sooooooo much better... Waay better...

See:
The wasabi green one

BUT I am soooo having problems sliding off the back cover. It is no mean feat. I spent like 20 minutes using all my strength to slide it off to put the battery in. The back cover also needs to be off to insert the microSD card and SIM card. A bit troublesome.

Anyway, when I took out my SIM card to copy contacts into it and attempted to slide the back cover opent again, it totally wun budge! Aaaargh! Spent over an hour trying to get it off but to no avail. Shit!

Hence, I sulkly left the baby at home and am using my other hp instead. Sianz...

The stubborn back cover:

Anyone using the HTC Touch too? Can teach a few tricks to get it off easily?

ShAke Up Your SeNsEs

Experienced any tremors from the EarthQuake in Indonesia ydae?

Shakes have been felt in different parts of the island and it's a scary thought considering the fact that most of us live in high-rise flats, apartments and condos.

How to evacuate in time?

What to pack?

Should I grab my IC/Passport/ money/jewellery etc etc? Or just grab myself and nothing else?

Scary...

Natural Disasters... Mother Nature's way of getting back at us inconsiderate selfish humans.

Do ThE LiOn DaNcE

Rousing performance

Was at Taka over the weekend and the BF and me chanced upon the magnificant performance of the Lion Dance Championships 2007 held outside Ngee Ann City.

This performance will probably be telecated over your tellys during CNY 2008.

It was so packed. Just look at the crowd!

I had diffculty taking the pics as I am vertically challenged -_-III. Too many heads covering my view hence the BF who was much taller took over the lens. Do pardon the blurry night shots. Camera not very good at taking twilight shots.

The start of the Championships. The first Lion.

Whoa! Standing up talll and mighty to take on the poles.

Ooooh! Pole balancing.

The drums were so LOOOOOOOOUD!

Lotsa lil kiddos hitched a ride on their daddys' shoulders for a clear view of the performance. Bet the air's much freshers up there too. Can't perform the same stunt on my BF's shoulders, he will collapse under my weight :P

NYDC

Yum yum saturday...

Had a feast at NYDC (wheelock on Saturday) with the BF. Got a cosy corner table and we tucked into pipping hot Three Amigos Baked Pasta and the BF had the same rice version. Lovely thick melted cheese covering generous servings of bacon and meatballs... Comforting the tastebuds with every bite *drool*

The BF who was still hungry after our carbo fix proceeded to order the 'Flame On' pizza. A local take on tender beef redang, onions, green chills spread over a thin flat crust. Not too bad but I still prefer 'Haiwaiian' :p

For deserts we had 'grandma goes nuts' (they have such quirky names for their food), a sweet vanilla mudpie filled with crunchy nuts and soft marshmallows topped with a lil whip cream and a cookie base. Heavenly.

NYDC is one of my fave eating places to hang out at. The atmosphere's pleasant, the food's great and the decor cosy and friendly.

And am a BIG BIG fan of....

Max's Oreo Cheesecake!!! *screeeeeeeeeeeam*

Looking forward to going there soon (again!)

Aesthetically SpEaKinG

Aesthetics…

In the domain of tech gadget…I am a very superficial person. I do not care for functions as long as the device does not break down on me after minimal use. Longer battery life, added functions? Am not shelling out my money, if the design does not catch my eye.

I love my gadgets sleek and sophisticated. Looks sell for me, that is.

A much ignorant technology-phobe, I have a tendency to one-ear-in-and-one-ear-out when cheem tech lingo comes pouring down on me. At the end of the day, am still swimming in murky waters.

Hence, I am very much contented with basic functions such as an MP3 player which plays songs coupled with nice pair of earphones will do. Does not need it to be able to play movies/take photos etc. Just the function I need and the looks to hook me up.

It’s the very same reason why I am (and many many others) are so in love with Apple products. From the MacBook to the iPods, those pristine white and classy black products got the world in a craze for them.

I want my Canon Ixus 900 Camera.

THuMp ThUmP

Aching...

My back...damn this always happens when the monthly red carpet rolls out.

Yearn to rest the lower back against the rhythmic beats of Osim's uPapa, except I once read from somewhere that pregnant women and women who are menustrating are not supposed to use uPapa.
Why? Those thumps will be the perfect solution to ease those aches on my lower back.
But anyway, since uPapa is financially too outta reach for me, I told myself to get a cheaper massage device alternative. Aching to say, I have not found one yet hence my rant on this entry...
*sigh*

Cola Lola

Drank too much cola last night...

Had difficulty falling asleep even though my physical self was dead beat. Looking at whisky asleepy with his eyes tighly shut at the foot of my bed, I wish I could drift off as easily as he could.

The hours drag on and I toss and turn... Think the clock struck past one before I doze off only to be awakened by the alarm clock on my dresser at 7 plus in the morning. Felt as it was minutes before I closed my eyes only to open 'em wide again.

Lesson learnt: Don't drink so much cola after 8pm. Unless I intend to turn noctural. It works even better than coffee to keep me WIDE awake

TuiTiOn TeAcHerS' Day

Happy Belated (Tuition) Teachers' Day!

1st Sept is the day where Teachers get showered with mountains of cards, flowers and other merchandise created to commerate this special day.

I still remember when I was student in pri to sec to JC, my classmates and I will do up big big cards, buy cakes, balloons to present to our teachers. It is a big event in school where students put up a variety of dance, song etc performances for the people who taught us how to read, write and open up our eyes to the world beyond our classroom at times.

So when I became a part-time tutor I am sometimes pleasantly surpised by lil handmade gifts by the adorable (albeit mischeivous) students of mine.

Got this card on Sunday from one of my P3 students. A lime green card with drawings and in her own handwriting for me! (Do forgive the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors :p) She's a real darling :)

Happy belated Teachers' Day to all my ex-teachers!

Give it a try! There's also original and sour cream flavours out on the shelves. Grab a bag pronto!

SingaPOPera

SingaPOPera!

The booklet is sooooooo pretty!

Awesome awesome!

The tixs!

Caught the 75 mins long muscial featuring iconic scenes from Beauty World, Fried Rice Paradise, Chang & Eng, Forbidden City, Hotpants, A Twist of Fate and Puteri Gunung Ledang at the University Cultural Centre on Fri at 7pm (thank goodness, I made it on time) with compliments from the BF's sis.

The above musicals were penned by local composers Dick Lee (who also sang a solo cantonese version of Snow. Wolf. Lake) and Ken Low.

The Singapore Pop Orchestra was also present to lend mesmerising tunes to the musicals and was an ear-opener indeed. The artistes involved in the musical include Emma Yong, Robin Goh, Gani Abdul Karim, Alemey Fernandez and Denise Tan, and PA Talents Dance Ensemble.

Boy, they could sure sing! My fave parts of the musical include the flamboyant Beauty World, the touching Chang & Eng, the retro Hotpants and the wrenching Puteri Gunung Ledang...

Beauty World... cha cha cha!

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan was also present to grace the event. After the rousing finale, guests were treated to a reception upstairs and we saw Vincent Ng one of the chorographers for the musical and one of ex-lectures for Sociology mingling in the crowd.

Lovely, SingaPOPera kept me entertained and was a musical that I remains deeply embeded in my memory.
