Do you jaywalk?

I guess 99.9% of Singaporean do. Just look the roads near your neighbourhood, your office etc, there's always people jaywalking every minute (or second).

Do I jaywalk? Yup but I do keep an eye out for oncoming cars (and mst importantly TP). Usually when I am in a rush and late for something important, if not I am pretty cool waiting for the green man to light up.

It amazes me that how jaywalking has become a univeral 'crime' committed worldwide on an increasing rate and done shamelessly. Some people even think its cool or brave to jaywalk?! Unbelieveable. Yes, it is dangerous but still we all do it.

Why???? Maybe it is the only form rebellion we can commit without being sent to the gallows? Just how many people get away scot-free from jaywalking everyday? More than your fingers and toes put together can count I bet.

It is ironic with the numerous traffic lights and overhead bridges we have in Singapore. We will STILL jaywalk with a traffic light less than 100 metres infront of us or even while crossing the traffic light while the red man is on.

There's this 2-way street near my blk which used to 'free-crossing' as in no traffic lights or bridges constructed. It was pretty dangerous as we had to judge when an oncoming car is coming and if it is driving too fast etc. People were complaining about it and wished for traffic constructions.

Hey presto, last yr a traffic light was constructed and you know what? People start jaywalking coz they comment that the traffic lights took a long time to turn green and the 2-way street doesn't have much cars driving through it except for peak hours. Okkkayyyy... hmmmmmmmmm Singaporeans are a hard to please bunch I suppose.

Anyway, it's better keep our eyes alert while we cross... The roads are like a tiger's mouth as a chinese saying goes...

<--- Cute! A really walking green man!
