NDP 2006 Preview
Was at the National Stadium (one last look before it undergoes a face lift and top to toe surgery) with my beloved other half on Saturday for the NDP 2006 Preview.
Arrived at around 4 plus and the crowds were massive! You could see a predominate wave of reds and whites swarming the place. The sweltering heat did not retreat till 6pm so I and many others were basically perspiring buckets.
Got our fun packs (a red, white and black sling bag packed with biscuits, drinks, sweets, a magazine, a portable fan (the best item in the bag), handphone torch and a cap that lights up) and proceed to slowly shuffle our way to the stands.
We were in the yellow sector (sitting by the sides of the stadium) and fortunately not the butt-facing sector. The crowds were pretty high except for an irritating toddler seated behind us who kept on ka-chowing us with his feet, balloons and clap sticks. Threw the parents a couple of looks and received apologetic sorries from the mum and an oblivlion look from the dad *huff*
The show was lovely except I do not really get the story line of the parade and during the marching segment where all the different contingents had to stand still for ages, someone from a volunteer contingent fainted! The individual (duno man or woman coz too far to see clearly) just topple face first, people in the crowds were talking and pin-pointing. After a couple of minutes, the fallen was carried away by some army personel on a stretcher. *phew*
As it was a preview, parts of the parade where the ministers and president make their entry had to be simulated. Which was pretty funny actually as we all had to stand and wait in make-believe for VIPs to grace the stadium. Haha
We also had to sing a birthday song when it wasn't actually the Nation's birthday yet.
All came to an end all too soon and the parade highlight has got to be the beautiful fireworks that lit up the skies. Brillant shades of gold, green, red etc in various shapes and sizes just exploded right infronot of us! Breathtaking beyond words! You could see many people shooting their cameras and hp off! My bf was engrossed in capturing the sights on his mobile video.
Due to the massive crowds leaving the stadium, we stayed back for awhile to allow the crowds to clear. The emcees were asking the public to leave the stadium in an 'orderly and cilivlised' manner haha... Can guess why they had to 'remind' us...
Hop on a shuttle bus back to aljunied mrt station after an hour pass the parade and got home all exhausted but extremely happy. Thank god, the following day was a Sunday haha
