A review on Straits Kitchen at the Grand Hyatt
The bf and I went over to SK (Straits Kitchen) on sat for its famed dinner buffet spread of local dishes. Armed with rumbling tummies and over-active digestive juices, we were pleasantly given a corner table.
Back track a little. I had phoned up the reservation number to reserve our table and being a week earlier I was amazed at how popular SK was. The lady on the other line informed that there was only 1 table left.
Anyways, we weren't expecting a corner table with the packed reservation so I was reali happy when we were given one. Drinks are ala carte but U can order ice water if you like. Food wise the spread was pretty ample
- Black pepper crabs
-mini buddha jump over the wall
-laksa
-chicken rice + roast duck
- indian fare of butter chicken, lentils, prata etc
- malay beef rendang, spicy french beans etc
- steamed fish
- carrot cake
- kueh kueh
-orh ni (yam paste)
-durian ice cream, mango sherbert
- fresh fruits
-otah
-sambla stingray
- and many more which I can't rem :p
Love the crab, soup and chicken + durian ice cream!
We parked out butts there from 630pm till 10pm and emerged with bulging tummies. We were so full that the mere sight of food made us wanna run in the opposite direction.
Hahaha
At S$41+++ per pax, some may argue that u can find yummier local fare at newton etc but coupled with the attentive and polite service of the service staff who clear your plates speedily and almost all of spore local fare to be found in 1 place, it's worth a try.
Note to make your reservation early. The place fills up fast.
