ExamS...
Exam fever
The mid-year exams are on for my students and my niece. Am praying hard they do well enough. Stressed.
Inevitably, brings back memories of mugging for my papers during the O and A levels. In fact during PSLE and O levels, I still rem I din study much for the papers but thankfully still managed to scrap through with decent results.
The killer papers I set for turns out to be the A Levels. Total shocker. In fact when I entered JC, my grades sorta plummeted at breakneck speed lah. Imagine scoring a C6 for GP when I scored a distinction for EL in sec sch.
GP and EL in sec sch are like totally 2 different things. Yours truly am not realli born with the talent to argue my way through in an essay and Econs and C Maths (hated Maths since Pri sch) were like my arch enemies. Could never fathom how some of my fellow classmates can crap their way thru Econs. The only one subj I liked in JC was Geog and Chinese.
Scoring grades that made me regret my decision to enter JC during the A Level prelims, totally stressed me out. Those alphabets wun never in a million years allow mi to enter uni. So u can imagine how much mugging, late nites, kopi and nitemares I had during the short period of time after Prelims and before A Levels I had to go through to pull up those appalling grades.
I had dreams of sitting for the wrong paper, late for exams and scoring like Fs for all my papers. I think I lost like 5kg during that period and started a case of gastrics. WTF.
Thankfully when results were released I still managed to score 2 distinctions for my Geog and Chinese, B4 for GP and passed my Econs and C Maths (farewell to the latter!).
Those 10 year series do work lah. I guess partly A levels was such a complete shocker was due to the short time we had to cram all the work in like less den 2 yrs. Imagine first 3 mths was like no work n all play lor. No one took anyth seriously since we are like still balancing on the fence coz we can still change our route of study choice once O level results are released.
Minus first 3 mths, minus the holidays and technically we have like 1 yr and a half to A Levels.
Strangely, even though my jc years were like a slave to the books, I still miss those uniformed daes, classes and the sch.
